New Delhi: The US Senator Steve Daines India visit concluded on Tuesday, with the senior lawmaker describing his engagements in New Delhi as “productive” and reaffirming the importance of the US-India strategic partnership. The visit included meetings with senior Indian ministers, parliamentarians, and business leaders, according to the US Embassy in India.
Daines, a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, travelled to India from January 17 to 19.
Meetings with Top Indian Leadership
During his visit, Steve Daines met S Jaishankar and Piyush Goyal, among other senior officials and members of parliament in New Delhi.
Following talks with Daines, Jaishankar said the discussions covered the breadth of the bilateral relationship and its strategic significance.
Trade, Pulse Crops and Montana Interests
Reflecting on the visit, Daines said his objective was to reinforce shared democratic values and advocate for Montana’s pulse crop farmers. Montana is the largest producer of pulse crops in the United States, while India remains the world’s biggest consumer.
He thanked Minister Goyal for engaging with US farmers’ concerns and said he would continue to work with Donald Trump to push for favourable provisions in future trade agreements.
Strategic Partnership and Indo-Pacific Focus
According to the US Embassy in India, Daines’ discussions with Indian leaders focused on expanding defence cooperation, securing supply chains, and reinforcing the US-India partnership to preserve a free, open and stable Indo-Pacific region.
The Embassy said the Senator encouraged faster progress toward a fair and reciprocal bilateral trade agreement between the two countries.
Engagement with Business Leaders
Daines also interacted with representatives of the Indian and American business communities, highlighting opportunities to deepen cooperation in advanced technologies and expand trade and investment ties to boost prosperity in both nations.

He added that senior US officials would continue to travel to India regularly as cooperation between the two democracies deepens.
The visit followed recent high-level engagement, including a phone call last week between Marco Rubio and EAM Jaishankar, during which the two leaders reviewed cooperation on trade, critical minerals, nuclear energy, defence and Indo-Pacific security.
Officials on both sides indicated that dialogue will continue as the US and India seek to elevate their strategic and economic partnership in a rapidly evolving global environment.
