- Odisha has increased bus fares across all categories from today.
- The revision follows a rise in diesel prices from ₹95.87 to ₹100.68 per litre.
- AC Deluxe and Super Deluxe buses have recorded the highest fare increase.
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha bus fare hike has come into effect from today after the State Transport Authority (STA) approved a revision under the automatic fare adjustment mechanism. The move follows a sharp increase in diesel prices, which rose from ₹95.87 per litre on May 15 to ₹100.68 per litre on May 31.
According to the notification issued by the Transport Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the STA, the fare revision applies to stage carriage buses operating within Odisha, excluding town bus services.
Odisha Bus Fare Hike Driven by Rising Fuel Costs
Transport authorities said the fare adjustment was necessary after diesel prices increased by ₹4.81 per litre during the review period, with the cumulative increase reaching ₹5.61 per litre, including previous carryover costs.
The automatic fare adjustment mechanism allows transport authorities to revise fares periodically in response to significant fluctuations in fuel prices.
Revised Bus Fares in Odisha
Passengers will now pay higher fares across all major bus categories:
| Bus Category | Old Fare | New Fare |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary | 90 paise/km | 92 paise/km |
| Express | 94 paise/km | 96 paise/km |
| Deluxe | 131 paise/km | 135 paise/km |
| AC Deluxe | 159 paise/km | 163 paise/km |
| Super Deluxe | 247 paise/km | 253 paise/km |
The highest increase has been recorded in premium categories such as AC Deluxe and Super Deluxe services.
What the Fare Revision Means for Passengers
The latest hike is expected to marginally increase travel costs for daily commuters and long-distance passengers across the state.
Transport operators have welcomed the revision, arguing that higher diesel prices have significantly increased operational expenses. However, commuters may face a greater financial burden, especially those who rely on bus services for regular travel.
With global fuel prices remaining volatile, future fare revisions will continue to depend on diesel price movements and reviews conducted by the State Transport Authority.
