Fake IAS Officer Arrested for Alleged Rs 20 Lakh OMC Job Fraud

BHUBANESWAR: The fake IAS job fraud Odisha case has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man accused of posing as a promoted IAS officer to dupe a job aspirant with a false promise of employment in the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC). Commissionerate Police arrested the accused from Hooghly district in West Bengal following an investigation into a complaint filed at Lingaraj Police Station.

Investigators alleged that the accused used forged recruitment documents and false claims of official influence to obtain Rs 20 lakh from the victim.

Fake IAS Job Fraud Odisha: Accused Promised Senior OMC Post

Police identified the accused as Rabinarayan Das, a native of Kendrapada district who was residing in the Uttarpara police station area of Hooghly district, West Bengal.

According to investigators, Das allegedly introduced himself as a promoted IAS officer serving in the Odisha government. With the help of a co-accused, Manoj Kumar Lenka, he allegedly convinced complainant Manoranjan Pradhan that he could secure him the post of Deputy General Manager in the Odisha Mining Corporation.

Trusting the assurance, the complainant allegedly transferred money through online transactions and cash payments on different occasions.

Forged OMC Documents Exposed During Investigation

Police said the accused later handed over appointment and interview letters purportedly issued by the Odisha Mining Corporation.

The complainant became suspicious and verified the documents, which were found to be forged. Based on the complaint, investigators examined bank transaction records and other evidence before tracing the accused to his hideout in Hooghly.

A police team subsequently conducted a raid and arrested Das.

Police Probe Reveals Previous Fraud Cases

During verification of the accused’s criminal background, Commissionerate Police found that Das had previously been linked to a similar job fraud case registered at Lingaraj Police Station and a cyber fraud case at the Jajpur Cyber Police Station.

In a separate incident, Commissionerate Police also arrested a 52-year-old man accused of impersonating an Additional Superintendent of Police and allegedly engaging in a dispute within the jurisdiction of Kharavelnagar Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

The investigation into the alleged OMC recruitment fraud is continuing as police examine the involvement of other individuals and verify whether additional victims were targeted using the same method.
