BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha panchayat elections 2027 are expected to be conducted in April and May, with the State Election Commission completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls before the election process begins. According to the Commission’s Secretary, voter list verification will continue until the first week of March to ensure an accurate electoral database for the rural local body polls.

The Commission has begun coordinating with district administrations to complete election preparations once the revision exercise is over.

Odisha Panchayat Elections 2027 Preparations Underway

The State Election Commission has already held meetings with Revenue Divisional Commissioners (RDCs) and district collectors to review arrangements for both Panchayat and urban local body elections.

Officials said another review meeting is scheduled for July 21 to assess the progress of preparatory work and finalise operational plans.

The Commission aims to complete administrative and logistical arrangements well before the election schedule is announced.

Door-to-Door Verification to Update Electoral Rolls

As part of the Special Intensive Revision, election officials will conduct door-to-door verification to prepare updated voter lists across the state.

Odisha currently has:

  • 6,794 Gram Panchayats
  • 91,930 wards and polling booths

The Commission said the verification exercise is intended to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls and ensure that all eligible voters are included before polling begins.

Focus on Smooth and Transparent Poll Process

Officials said the slight delay in announcing the election schedule is intended to ensure error-free voter rolls and facilitate the smooth conduct of elections.

The State Election Commission is working closely with district administrations to strengthen logistics, polling arrangements and security measures ahead of the Panchayat and urban local body elections, with the objective of conducting a transparent and efficient electoral process across Odisha.
