NEW DELHI: The Coal India July production performance reached a new milestone as the state-owned miner reported its highest-ever coal supply for the month of July. According to the company, coal offtake increased 18.38 percent year-on-year to 64.19 million tonnes (MT), while production rose 8.44 percent to 50.36 MT, reflecting strong operational momentum despite the challenges of the monsoon season.
The latest figures underline Coal India’s efforts to maintain steady fuel availability for power plants and industrial consumers through improved inventory management and efficient mining operations.
Coal India July Production Drives Record Supply
Coal India said the July supply of 64.19 MT surpassed the previous July record of 60.5 MT achieved in FY25, making it the highest monthly July dispatch in the company’s history.
The record performance follows another milestone in June, when Coal India supplied 65.95 MT, the highest-ever coal supply recorded for that month.
During the April-July period of FY27, cumulative coal supplies reached 262.04 MT, an increase of 6.9 percent over the corresponding period last year and a new record for the first four months of a financial year.
Power Sector Receives Higher Coal Supply
Coal India reported a significant increase in supplies to its largest consumer segment.
- Coal supply to the power sector rose 18 percent to 49.77 MT, compared with 42.35 MT in July last year.
- Supplies to the non-regulated sector increased 21 percent to 14.42 MT, up from 11.89 MT a year earlier.
The company said its demand-responsive inventory optimisation strategy enabled it to maintain a healthy balance between production and dispatches while ensuring uninterrupted coal availability.
Coal India July Production Supported by Higher Mining Activity
Coal India also reported continued growth in mining operations during the month.
Overburden removal, a key indicator of mining activity, increased 21.11 percent year-on-year to 120.35 million cubic metres in July.
For the April-July period, cumulative overburden removal stood at 625.02 million cubic metres, reflecting a 2.85 percent increase compared with the same period of the previous financial year.
The company said the improved operational performance demonstrates its ability to sustain production growth and meet rising coal demand despite seasonal challenges.
