NEW DELHI: BJP MP Raghav Chadha on Monday accused the Opposition of using the NEET paper leak controversy for political gains, saying the issue should be addressed through institutional reforms rather than political protests. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, he said the real fight is between merit and the mafia, and between hard work and malpractice.
He urged political parties not to exploit students’ concerns and instead focus on strengthening the country’s examination system.
Raghav Chadha NEET Paper Leak Remarks in Rajya Sabha
Addressing the House, Chadha said examination paper leaks require long-term structural reforms rather than temporary political responses.
He said the government’s anti-paper leak framework represents India’s first comprehensive legal mechanism aimed at tackling organised examination fraud.
The BJP MP also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for responding to students’ concerns and supported the decision to bring major paper leak offences under the category of serious crimes eligible for fast-track court trials.
Opposition Accused of Politicising Student Protests
Chadha criticised Opposition parties for, according to him, using student protests as a political platform instead of working towards lasting solutions.
He argued that examination irregularities should receive equal attention regardless of whether they occur in national examinations or in states governed by different political parties.
The BJP leader also alleged that political leaders remained away from the frontlines during protests while students bore the consequences, urging parties not to use young people’s emotions for political campaigns.
Public Examinations Bill Strengthens Anti-Paper Leak Law
The remarks came during the debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which has now been passed by both Houses of Parliament.
The Centre said the amendments strengthen the legal framework against examination malpractice by introducing tougher enforcement measures and enabling faster prosecution of offenders. Opposition parties, however, argued that the legislation does not fully address the systemic issues responsible for recurring paper leak incidents.
