Odisha Deports 42 Bangladeshi Nationals From Bhubaneswar, Cuttack; Six Await Repatriation

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has completed the deportation of 42 Bangladeshi nationals who were found to be residing illegally in Odisha’s twin cities, while six others remain at the state’s holding centre in Athagarh pending final repatriation.

According to police, 48 Bangladeshi nationals were identified during an operation launched after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of illegal infiltrators in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Following verification of their identities, authorities initiated legal and diplomatic procedures for their deportation.

Police Launched Operation After Intelligence Inputs

Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh said the commissionerate acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement and stay of Bangladeshi nationals in the two cities.

After confirming their identities, police detained the individuals and began the repatriation process in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Deportations Conducted in Coordination With BSF

According to the Police Commissioner, the deportation exercise was carried out in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF).

Most of the deportees were escorted to Bangladesh through designated land border checkpoints along the West Bengal border, while another group was repatriated aboard a specially chartered aircraft.

Deportation Carried Out in Multiple Phases

In the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District, authorities identified 32 Bangladeshi nationals, including:

10 men
17 women
Five children, including three girls

Of these, 26 individuals were deported in three phases between July 2025 and March 2026, while the remaining are among those awaiting final administrative clearances.

The Cuttack Urban Police District separately deported 16 Bangladeshi nationals through three operations conducted over nearly a year. Fourteen were repatriated in July 2025, followed by one deportation in August 2025 and another in July 2026.
