Odisha Vs Mohun Bagan AFC Cup 2023: Mohun Bagan Super Giant upset 10-man Odisha FC in their opening game of Group D of the AFC Cup 2023–24 on Tuesday at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar thanks to an all-around effort.
The away squad scored with Sahal Abdul Samad, Dimitri Petratos , and Liston Colaco, while Odisha FC went scoreless in their first AFC Cup game. In the first half, Mohun Bagan SG controlled the possessions. Together, Manvir Singh, Armando Sadiku, Hugo Boumous, and Dimitri Petratos dominated the Mariners’ assault but were unable to score a goal.
Odisha FC, meanwhile, found it difficult to trouble the Mohun Bagan defense. When their key player Mourtada Fall received a second caution for a hard tackle on Hugo Boumous in the 42nd minute, their problems only got worse.
With Sahal Abdul Samad’s first AFC Cup goal in the opening minute of the second half, Mohun Bagan took advantage of their advantage. Sahal Abdul Samad defeated the goalkeeper and captain of Odisha, Amrinder Singh, with a strong effort from the center of the box, assisted by Manvir Singh.
At the hour mark, Odisha FC, the Super Cup champions, played some offensive football and earned a few corners. However, Mohun Bagan’s defense made sure that their slim lead held firm.
Mohun Bagan increased their advantage in the 68th minute. Amrinder Singh stopped Sahal Abdul Samad’s long-range attempt, but Dimitri Petratos was there to score on the rebound.
In the 73rd minute, Liston Colaco came on to replace Sahal Abdul Samad, and he had an immediate impact. The Indian Super League and Durand Cup champions increased their lead to 3-0 six minutes after their arrival thanks to his header.
In the 82nd minute, Dimitri Petratos scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-0 and end any possibility of an Odisha FC comeback.
After the AFC Champions League, the AFC Cup is the top club football tournament in Asia. The next game between the two Indian football clubs will take place on October 2.
