President Droupadi Murmu met Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini in Bratislava on Wednesday, with both leaders agreeing to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors. The meeting marked the first visit by an Indian President to Slovakia in 29 years.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two Presidents held productive discussions, reviewing various aspects of the India–Slovakia relationship and expressing a shared commitment to expand the bilateral partnership. President Murmu also acknowledged the growing interest in Indian culture in Slovakia and underlined the potential for collaboration in the fields of media, entertainment, and the creative economy.

During the meeting, President Murmu invited Slovakia to participate in the upcoming WAVE Summit, to be held in Mumbai from May 1 to 4. She also encouraged Slovakia to consider joint ventures in film production and to promote the country as a filming destination.

As part of the visit, both leaders witnessed the exchange of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). One MoU was signed between the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) of India and the Slovak Business Agency for cooperation in the field of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The other MoU was signed between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) and the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, focusing on bilateral cooperation in diplomatic training and exchanges.

According to a post shared by the President’s Secretariat on X, President Murmu held one-on-one as well as delegation-level talks with President Pellegrini. The Indian delegation included Minister of State Nimuben Bambhaniya, Members of Parliament Dhaval Patel and Sandhya Ray, and senior officials. President Murmu appreciated President Pellegrini’s personal commitment to enhancing ties between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, President Murmu was received by President Pellegrini at the Presidential Palace, where she was accorded a ceremonial welcome with a traditional Slovak greeting of bread and salt, as well as a Guard of Honour. The visit to Slovakia follows the conclusion of President Murmu’s state visit to Portugal, where she held high-level meetings, including one with the President of Assembleia da República, Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco.
