In a significant step toward environmental conservation, two more Indian wetlands have been added to the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance, raising the total number of Ramsar sites in the country to 91.
New Ramsar Sites: Khichan and Menar in Rajasthan
The newly recognized sites are Khichan in Phalodi and Menar in Udaipur, both located in Rajasthan. These ecologically rich wetlands are known for supporting migratory birds and diverse flora and fauna, playing a crucial role in sustaining regional biodiversity and ecological balance.
Government Applauds Conservation Efforts
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav shared the news and stated that this achievement is a clear reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong focus on environmental conservation. He emphasized that such initiatives are shaping India’s journey toward a greener and more sustainable future.
India Strengthens Global Environmental Commitment
With 91 wetlands now on the Ramsar List, India continues to demonstrate its proactive stance in protecting vital ecosystems. The recognition by the Ramsar Convention not only showcases India’s ecological richness but also reinforces its role in global efforts for biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
