England Dominate Day 4 of 4th Test: India in Trouble After Woakes’ Early Strikes

Published on

Manchester: England took firm control of the 4th Test against India at Old Trafford on Day 4, piling up a massive first-innings total of 669 runs and reducing India to 0/2 early in their second innings.

Stokes and Root Power England to 311-Run Lead

Captain Ben Stokes led from the front with a brilliant 141-run knock, while Joe Root continued his sublime form, scoring 150 runs and moving to second place on the all-time Test run-scorers list, just behind Sachin Tendulkar. England’s commanding batting display gave them a 311-run first-innings lead over the visitors.

India Collapse Early in Second Innings

In reply, India’s second innings began on a disastrous note. England pacer Chris Woakes struck twice in his very first over, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sudharsan without scoring. Captain Shubman Gill narrowly escaped a hat-trick ball, but India was already under tremendous pressure with the scoreboard reading 0/2.

England Eye Series Win

England, who lead the five-match series 2-1, are now well poised to clinch the series with a win in the fourth Test. With India trailing by over 300 runs and two wickets down, they will need a remarkable batting effort to save the match.

The final day’s play promises high drama as India fights to stay alive in the series.
