Bhubaneswar: Odisha floods Latest Report: There is little rain in the state today. Low pressure has weakened and moved to Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The amount of rain has decreased in Odisha. Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Office has informed that there is no possibility of heavy rain in the state till next week. Moving in west-north-west direction at speed, the rainfall is concentrated over North-Eastern Madhya Pradesh region along North-West Chhattisgarh. It will maintain its direction of motion for the next 24 hours and weaken to form a well-marked low pressure. On the other hand, due to the west-northwest movement of this deep depression, its impact over Odisha will decrease from today.
Similarly, while light to moderate rains are expected in some parts of the state today, there is a possibility of rain in one to two places tomorrow. Banaigarh in Sundargarh district recorded the maximum rainfall of 140 mm in the last 24 hours.
The big thing is that there is a risk of severe flooding in the Subaranarekha river basin, said Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena. Some parts of Mayurbhanj and Balasore, Bhoograi and Basta areas of Balasore district will be affected. There is a threat of such a situation due to the release of 6 lakh cusecs of water in Galudihi Barrage in Jharkhand. At Jamshola Ghat, the Subarnarekha river is 4 meters above the danger mark.
Similarly, 40 operation teams of one ODRAF and one NDRF have been sent to work in Balasore district. Flood danger mark has been reached in Budhabalang and Subaranarekha rivers. The district administration has advised the people of the riverside villages to be alert as it is likely to cross the danger level this evening. SRC asked the administration to give priority to prevent loss of life. The SRC advises not to drive over bridges or culverts submerged during floods.
Along with this, Jajpur and Bhadrak have been put on alert due to the threat of flood in Baitarani river. Water level in Achupada Anikot of Bhadrak district is flowing above the danger mark. Similarly, SRC has informed that Brahmini is also being monitored.
Now water is being drained through 4 gates in Hirakuda dam. If necessary, these 4 gates can also be closed. 1 lakh 96 thousand 186 cusecs of water is entering the reservoir every second. 1 lakh 2 thousand 685 cusecs of water is being discharged from the reservoir every second. 5 lakh 90 thousand cusecs of water is flowing in the river Khairmal. 7 lakh 67 thousand cusecs of water is flowing in Llamamul. Similarly, 8 lakh 35 thousand 672 cusecs of water is flowing in Mundali. The SRC said that the water level is gradually decreasing everywhere, including Mundli.
Special SRC powers have been given to Balasore District Magistrate for flood management. State Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered the use of special helicopters for rescue operations.
