Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had a “lengthy conversation” with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, covering a wide range of issues including bilateral cooperation, the diplomatic situation, and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Modi’s warm words of support for the Ukrainian people and briefed him on recent Russian attacks, including the shelling of a bus station in Zaporizhzhia that injured dozens. He condemned the strike as a deliberate attack on civilian infrastructure, noting that it comes at a time when diplomatic opportunities for ending the war are emerging.

Zelenskyy said they also discussed sanctions on Russia, highlighting the need to curb Russian energy exports—especially oil—to weaken Moscow’s ability to finance the war. He urged all world leaders with influence over Russia to send clear signals to stop its aggression.

The two leaders agreed to meet in person at the UN General Assembly in September and to work on arranging reciprocal visits.
