Aditya Aluminium Launches Odisha’s First 200 KLD Zero Liquid Discharge Plant in Sambalpur

Published on

Sambalpur: Aditya Aluminium has achieved a major milestone in sustainable industrial operations by commissioning Odisha’s first 200 KLD Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant at its Sambalpur facility in Hirakud. The state-of-the-art unit, based on advanced mechanical vapour recompression (MVR) technology, is designed to recycle and reuse industrial effluents, setting new standards for water conservation and environmental compliance in the state.

Odisha’s First 200 KLD Zero Liquid Discharge Plant Sets Benchmark for Sustainability

The new Zero Liquid Discharge plant in Odisha was inaugurated by PCCF (KL) and member secretary of Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), Uma Nanduri. The system uses recycled steam energy to evaporate and condense wastewater, allowing the recovery of 90–95 percent clean water for reuse. This process eliminates liquid effluent discharge entirely and drastically reduces dependence on freshwater sources.

Advanced MVR Technology Ensures High Water Recovery

The MVR-based system marks a technological leap in industrial water management. By using steam energy efficiently, the ZLD plant minimizes waste and enhances water recycling capacity within the manufacturing process. Aditya Aluminium officials stated that the initiative ensures full compliance with ZLD norms and reinforces the company’s environmental responsibility.

Rs 20 Crore Investment Strengthens Green Commitment

Developed with an investment of around Rs 20 crore, the new setup reflects Hindalco’s broader commitment to sustainability, circular economy principles, and resource efficiency. The company aims to achieve water positivity across all its units, with this project serving as a key step toward that goal.

Leaders Commend Aditya Aluminium’s Eco-Initiative

The inaugural event saw the presence of several dignitaries including Conservator of Forests of Sambalpur Kendu Leaf Circle Sudarsan Behera, Aditya Aluminium Unit Head JP Nayak, Head of CPP Gulshan Tiwari, and Smelter Head Sandeep Singh. The officials praised the project as a pioneering example of sustainable industrial development in Odisha.
