Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad Claims 254 Lives: One Survivor, Probe Underway

The tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has resulted in the death of 254 people, with only one survivor, a British national of Indian origin. The ill-fated flight was carrying 242 passengers, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian, along with 12 crew members.

Dr. Mehul Shah, President of the Gujarat chapter of the Indian Medical Association, confirmed that the victims include four medical students and the wife of a local doctor.

Residential Area Hit: Eight More Bodies Identified

The crash also affected nearby residential zones. Eight bodies from the area have been identified and handed over to their families. To assist with further identifications, authorities have collected blood samples from 219 relatives of the deceased for DNA testing.

At present, 31 injured individuals are receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital, where medical personnel are working around the clock to provide emergency care.

A team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has recovered the aircraft’s Flight Data Recorder (black box) from the crash site. Forensic experts have also launched a detailed investigation. Officials say that the exact cause of the crash will be determined through forensic and technical analysis.

The state of Gujarat is reeling from the shock of this disaster, especially as many passengers were from within the state. Condolence meetings, prayer gatherings, and blood donation drives are taking place across the region in tribute to the victims.

The administration has set up a 24/7 control room at the Civil Hospital to coordinate relief efforts. Accommodation and transport facilities have been arranged for bereaved families, showcasing a united front of community support during this crisis.
