Dispur: The spotlight was on Amit Shah at Mising Youth Festival Assam as the Union Home Minister on Friday delivered a strong message of tribal pride, cultural unity, and youth empowerment at the 10th Mising Youth Festival in Dhemaji.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and several dignitaries attended the landmark event.

Addressing the gathering, Shah said communities can safeguard their culture, language, and traditions through unity and youth-led festivals, not through violence.

He described India’s civilisation as a harmonious blend of many cultures, calling Mising heritage an inseparable part of the nation’s identity.

Shah highlighted the Donyi-Polo tradition of the Mising community, rooted in nature worship.

He noted that respecting nature is equal to worshipping God, adding that such traditions bring global recognition not just to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh but to India as a whole.

Government Support for Tribal Issues and Cultural Rights

The Home Minister stated that tribes in the past faced suppression under opposition governments.

He assured that an interlocutor appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs will work to address long-standing concerns of the Mising community.

Shah reiterated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, every culture and language has an equal right to flourish.

Bogibeel Bridge and Infrastructure as Symbols of New India

Highlighting development work, Shah pointed to the Bogibeel Bridge, which remained pending for years but was completed within four years under the Modi government.

He credited Mising workers for their contribution, calling the bridge a proud symbol of “New India’s vision.”

Mising Community’s Role in Freedom Struggle and Ecology

Shah described the Mising society as the heartbeat of the Brahmaputra Valley.

He recalled the community’s sacrifices during India’s freedom movement and contributions in defending the nation, while also praising their eco-friendly lifestyle and festivals like Ali-Aye-Ligang.

Recruitment Drive for Mising Youth in Central Forces

In a major announcement, Shah said special recruitment drives will be launched for the Mising community in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

He said this will enable local youth to play an important role in India’s internal security.

Shah noted that Assam is steadily progressing toward peace, with nearly 10,000 youths laying down arms following multiple agreements.

He also highlighted that the Assam government has recognised the Mising language as a medium of instruction in 200 lower primary schools.

Jobs, Semiconductor Factory, and ‘Made in Assam’ Chips

The Home Minister stated that over 1.56 lakh government jobs have been provided transparently without recommendations.

He added that a semiconductor factory in Assam will create more than 27,000 jobs, and by the end of 2026, ‘Made in Assam’ chips will reach international markets.

Shah said making Assam free from infiltrators is a shared responsibility. He claimed infiltration rose significantly during opposition rule, leading to demographic shifts. He assured that infiltrators will be identified and deported under CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership.

He also mentioned that the state has freed 1.26 lakh acres of land from illegal encroachment.

Record Development Funding for Assam Under Modi Government

Shah said Assam’s development has become a priority under the BJP-led Centre.

He stated that while earlier governments allocated ₹1.28 lakh crore over 10 years, the Modi government has provided ₹4.5 lakh crore in the last decade.

He detailed major spending of ₹30,000 crore on roads, ₹95,000 crore on railways, and ₹10,000 crore on airports.

Concluding his speech, Shah said tribal welfare remains central to the Modi government’s agenda.

He noted initiatives such as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas on November 15, tribal museums, and a major rise in the budget for Eklavya Model Residential Schools, increased nearly 25 times.
