Amit Shah to meet cross-border shelling victims’ families in Poonch

Published on

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Poonch on Friday to meet families affected by Pakistani shelling and drone attacks. During his visit, he will survey the damaged areas and interact with personnel from the BSF, Indian Army, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

BJP leader Ravinder Raina told ANI that Shah’s visit follows the success of Operation Sindoor, in which Indian forces destroyed terrorist sites in Pakistan.

Between May 7 and May 10, Poonch district recorded 14 civilian deaths — the highest among all affected areas.

Security has been tightened in Poonch ahead of Shah’s visit.

Earlier, Congress leader and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi also visited Poonch. Following his visit, he wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the government to provide a substantial relief and rehabilitation package for those affected by the shelling.

In his letter, Gandhi highlighted the deaths of 14 people, including four children, and noted that dozens were injured. He described the shelling as a “sudden and indiscriminate attack” that caused widespread damage, with hundreds of homes, shops, schools, and places of worship destroyed. Gandhi emphasized that many victims had lost everything they had worked for over the years.
