NEW DELHI: Former Prime MinisterAtal Bihari Vajpayee death anniversary 2026 was marked in New Delhi on Sunday as President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior leaders gathered at Sadaiv Atal to pay their respects.

The dignitaries laid floral tributes at the former Prime Minister’s memorial and attended a prayer meeting held in his memory. The occasion brought together leaders from across the political establishment to remember Vajpayee’s contribution to India’s public life.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind, Rajya Sabha Vice Chairman Harivansh, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and BJP National President Nitin Nabin were among those who paid homage.

Born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Vajpayee was known as both a politician and a poet and writer. He became Prime Minister on three occasions, serving for 13 days in 1996, around 13 months from 1998 to 1999 and then a full term from 1999 to 2004.

Vajpayee died on August 16, 2018, at AIIMS in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Vajpayee earlier in the day, recalling his vision and long public service.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also remembered the former Prime Minister, describing him as a patriot who devoted his life to the nation.
