Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has issued new guidelines restricting police personnel in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from posting photos and videos on social media while in uniform or on duty in sensitive zones.

The directive aims to protect operational confidentiality and strengthen security at sensitive public installations. The order has been issued following instances of officers sharing deployment visuals and workplace clips online.

New Commissionerate Police Social Media Guidelines

Under the new guidelines, police personnel deployed at sensitive installations have been prohibited from capturing or uploading photos and videos during duty hours.

The restriction applies to personnel posted at locations including Lok Seva Bhavan, Lingaraj Temple, Odisha High Court and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), among other sensitive public offices.

Why Police Personnel Cannot Post Duty Visuals

According to the directive, sharing images or videos from sensitive locations could reveal confidential information and operational details to the public.

Such information could potentially expose security arrangements at important installations.

The guidelines have therefore been introduced to ensure that details related to police deployment and sensitive locations remain confidential.

Complete Mobile Phone Ban for Sentries on Duty

The new guidelines also impose a complete ban on mobile phone use by sentries while on duty.

The order states that mobile phone use during sentry duty could result in confidential information being exposed and may reveal details about sensitive locations.

The restriction is intended to ensure that personnel remain focused on their security responsibilities while preventing the unauthorised sharing of information.

Violations to Invite Action

The directive has made it clear that violations of the new rules will be treated seriously.

Police personnel found breaching the guidelines will face action in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Security and Operational Confidentiality

The new Commissionerate Police social media guidelines are focused on preventing the online disclosure of deployment-related information.

The restrictions cover both social media activity and mobile phone use in specified duty situations, particularly where the disclosure of visual or operational information could have security implications.

The Commissioner of Police has signed the directive covering the new restrictions for police personnel in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
