Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a new low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a depression and subsequently a deep depression over the next few days.

The system is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas before moving west-northwestwards towards the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast.

New Low Pressure Likely Over Bay of Bengal

According to the IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently active over the North Andaman Sea and its adjoining areas.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form by this evening over the same region.

After formation, the system is expected to move in a west-northwestward direction and gradually become more organised.

System May Become Depression by September 21

The weather system is likely to intensify into a depression by September 21 over the east-central Bay of Bengal.

The IMD has further forecast that the system could intensify into a deep depression by September 22.

The department is closely monitoring the development and movement of the system.

System Likely to Move Towards Odisha Coast

After intensifying, the system is very likely to continue moving west-northwestwards.

According to the IMD forecast, it may move towards the South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coast by September 23.

The movement of the system could influence weather conditions across Odisha, particularly from September 22 onwards.

Odisha Rainfall Likely to Increase From September 22

The IMD has forecast an increase in rainfall activity over Odisha from September 22 under the influence of the developing weather system.

The intensity and distribution of rainfall will depend on the system’s subsequent movement and development over the Bay of Bengal.

IMD Closely Monitoring the System

The weather department is continuously monitoring the low-pressure system and its expected track.

Further updates on the system’s intensity, movement and rainfall impact are likely as it develops over the coming days.

Odisha Weather Alert: What to Watch

The latest Odisha weather forecast indicates a potential increase in rainfall from September 22, with the system expected to move towards South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh by September 23.

At present, the IMD is tracking the system’s development from a low-pressure area to a possible depression and deep depression. Residents should follow subsequent official IMD updates for district-specific rainfall warnings and weather advisories.
