Bihar CM Nitish Kumar a ‘Necessity’ for State: Chirag Paswan

Published on

Patna: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Monday described Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as a “necessity” for the state and called him a “case study in political longevity” despite facing several challenges over the years.

In an interview, Paswan said, “As a student of political science, I would say that Nitish ji is a necessity, and I mean this in a positive sense. It would be useful for my understanding of politics to know how he has remained in power for two decades despite all the highs and lows. Even today, there is no visible anti-incumbency against him.”

‘No Anti-Incumbency Against Nitish Kumar’: Chirag Paswan

The Union Minister stressed that the absence of anti-incumbency against Nitish Kumar stems from his welfare schemes and the public’s emotional connection with the chief minister, especially regarding his health.

“There is no anti-incumbency. I say this very honestly. In 2020, there were complaints, but now people connect emotionally with him. When others target him for his health, they see him as an elderly family member who continues to fight. That empathy has strengthened his public image,” Paswan said.

He added that attacks on Nitish Kumar’s age and health have only increased people’s respect for him.

Chirag Paswan Questions Tejashwi Yadav’s Campaign Energy

Paswan drew a comparison between the campaign approaches of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, suggesting that Nitish remains more active and alert.

“When Tejashwi did not even leave the house and completed negotiations, Chief Minister Nitish was out campaigning. So, who looks more fit and alert health-wise?” he asked.

‘Our Relations Are Very Good’: Chirag Paswan

Chirag Paswan also underlined his cordial relations with Nitish Kumar, revealing that the chief minister visited his home during Chhath Puja to share Kharna Prasad.

“Our relations are very good. If they were not, why would Nitish ji come to my house to eat Kharna Prasad? His presence was a clear message that relations between us are positive,” he said.

He added that both leaders have made a sincere effort to act as a “cementing force” within the alliance. “We had long discussions in a closed room. He is calm, composed, and a man of few words but very clear in expression,” Chirag noted.

NDA Faces Tough Test in Phase-II of Bihar Assembly Polls

In the second phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the NDA faces a crucial test in maintaining its dominance, particularly in northern Bihar’s strongholds East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, and Sitamarhi districts where the ruling alliance currently controls 30 assembly seats.

This phase will also determine the political fate of 12 ministers from Nitish Kumar’s cabinet, including:

  • JD(U) leaders: Vijendra Yadav (Supaul), Lesi Singh (Dhamdaha), Jayant Kushwaha (Amarpur), Sumit Singh (Chakai), Mohammad Jama Khan (Chainpur), and Sheela Mandal (Phoolparas)
  • BJP leaders: Prem Kumar (Gaya Town), Renu Devi (Bettiah), Vijay Kumar Mandal (Sikati), Nitish Mishra (Jhanjharpur), Neeraj Bablu (Chhatapur), and Krishnanandan Paswan (Harsiddhi)

A Case Study in Political Survival

Political observers agree with Paswan’s assessment that Nitish Kumar’s ability to adapt, maintain alliances, and sustain governance has made him a rare example of political longevity in Indian politics.

As the assembly polls progress, his leadership remains both a stabilizing force and a subject of study for the next generation of politicians a fact even his critics, like Chirag Paswan, are willing to acknowledge.
