Deepening India-Norway Cooperation in Marine and Arctic Sectors

The two ministers discussed broadening collaboration in areas such as:

  • Marine Spatial Planning (MSP)
  • Arctic Research
  • Blue Economy Resilience

Their dialogue aimed to expand the Indo-Norwegian Integrated Ocean and Research Initiative, which has already shown tangible progress through pilot programs in Puducherry and Lakshadweep. These projects address concerns like coastal erosion, biodiversity preservation, sustainable tourism, and fishery development.

India’s Commitment to a Resilient Blue Economy Highlighted at Monaco

Speaking at the Monaco Marine Conference, Dr. Singh reaffirmed India’s firm dedication to developing a sustainable and resilient Blue Economy. He reminded the audience that Prime Minister Modi had emphasized the Blue Economy in two successive Independence Day addresses, reflecting its strategic national importance.

SAHAV Portal Recognised as a Global Digital Public Good

One of the key achievements highlighted by Dr. Singh was the launch of the SAHAV portal, a GIS-based decision support system. Marking International Ocean Day, the portal has gained recognition as a Digital Public Good, enhancing India’s stature in marine environmental planning and ocean governance.

The India-Norway bilateral dialogue at Monaco signals stronger cooperation on marine and environmental fronts while underscoring international support for India’s stance against terrorism. As both nations continue to share expertise, especially through MSP and Arctic initiatives, the partnership promises impactful global contributions in ocean sustainability.
