Bhubaneswar: In a major security breakthrough, Bolangir and Bargarh declared Naxal-free marks a historic milestone in Odisha’s anti-Maoist campaign. Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania confirmed that both districts are now officially free from Naxal activities following sustained counter-insurgency operations.
The announcement follows fresh developments across the interstate border that further weakened extremist networks in the region.
Maoist Surrender Strengthens Security Gains
On the same day, 15 Maoists surrendered in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh, which shares a border with Bargarh. These cadres were reportedly active in the Bargarh–Bolangir–Mahasamund (BBM) division, a region once considered sensitive to Naxal influence.
Security officials say the surrender significantly disrupted residual Maoist presence along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh corridor. With this development, both Bolangir and Bargarh have achieved complete operational clearance from extremist activities.
Coordinated Operations Behind the Success
According to the DGP, the achievement resulted from prolonged joint operations involving Central Armed Police Forces and Odisha Police units. Authorities relied on precise intelligence inputs and strategic coordination across agencies.
He emphasized that cooperation from local communities played a decisive role. Residents provided critical support, enabling security forces to dismantle Naxal networks systematically.
The police chief praised the courage, discipline, and commitment of officers involved in the anti-Naxal drive. He also thanked citizens for maintaining trust in law enforcement agencies.
Anti-Naxal Operations to Continue Across Odisha
While celebrating the milestone, officials clarified that intensified operations will continue in other previously affected pockets of the state.
The Odisha Police leadership has reiterated its commitment to completely eradicating Left-wing extremism. Authorities say the model adopted in Bolangir and Bargarh will now guide future counter-insurgency strategies statewide.
