#BoycottTurkey: Udaipur marble traders ban imports

Published on

Udaipur, Rajasthan: Known as Asia’s largest marble export hub, Udaipur’s marble traders have unanimously decided to end all business dealings with Turkiye. The decision comes in protest against Ankara’s open support for Pakistan amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Kapil Surana, President of the Udaipur Marble Processors Committee, confirmed the collective move. “Udaipur leads Asia in marble exports. Every member of the committee has agreed to stop importing from Turkiye due to its backing of Pakistan,” he stated.

Turkiye currently supplies nearly 70% of India’s imported marble. However, industry leaders in Udaipur believe that cutting off trade could have broader strategic implications.

“If marble associations across India take the same stand, it will send a clear and powerful message—that our industries stand united with the Indian government,” Surana emphasized. He also highlighted that this boycott could lead to a surge in demand for Indian marble, giving local producers a much-needed boost.

‘Ban Turkey’ Movement Gains Ground

This move by Udaipur traders is part of a growing national trend against Turkish imports. As Turkiye continues to support Pakistan, the “Ban Turkey” campaign has been picking up momentum across India.

In Pune, local traders have already taken action by boycotting Turkish apples, which has led to the fruit disappearing from city markets. The impact is expected to be significant, as Turkish apples normally account for a seasonal turnover of ₹1,000 to ₹1,200 crore in Pune’s fruit trade.

As the protest spreads, more sectors may join in, potentially reshaping India’s import dynamics and reinforcing economic nationalism.
