Cable Landing Station in Puri: How will it help people, and what is it?

Published on

Puri: The state government’s Electronics and IT Department has started planning to build a Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Puri as part of a significant effort to develop Odisha as a worldwide digital hub. The action is viewed as a calculated move to draw significant technology investments and improve the state’s digital ecosystem.

Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja examined the status of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), which RailTel and Deloitte are working on together, earlier on Wednesday. It is anticipated that the proposed CLS will greatly fortify Odisha’s digital backbone, facilitating quicker data connectivity and creating opportunities for top-notch data centers and IT infrastructure.

According to an official announcement, the initiative is expected to spur large-scale investment, create job opportunities, and attract top-tier technology businesses to the region. Ahuja emphasized the need of collaborating with hyperscalers and other participants in the digital ecosystem to ensure the project’s long-term viability and holistic implementation. He also directed officials to speed up the finalisation and submission of the DPR, with a significant emphasis on completing the ambitious project within a three-year timeframe.

What is Cable Landing Station?

The Odisha Cable Landing Station is the state government’s flagship endeavor, with a strategic focus on scalability and ecosystem development. The administration remains committed to making the state an attraction for digital investments, creating enormous potential for businesses, technology companies, and employees, according to the announcement. Puri was chosen as the best location for the cable landing station because of its strategic geographic location, good coastline, scaling potential, and strong infrastructure.

A Cable Landing Station (CLS), also known as a submarine cable landing station, is a coastal facility where undersea fiber optic cables transporting international telecommunications and internet traffic are connected to land-based networks.

Cable landing stations are often referred to as undersea cable landing stations. It is a facility on the seashore where undersea fibre optic cables transporting international telecommunications and internet traffic are connected to terrestrial networks.
