Char Dham Yatra Suspended Amid Cloudburst and Heavy Rain Alert in Uttarakhand

Published on

The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has been suspended for the next 24 hours due to a red alert for heavy rainfall and fears of landslides in the region. The decision comes after a cloudburst struck near Silai Band in Uttarkashi district early this morning, leaving nine workers missing at an under-construction site.

According to officials, nineteen workers were present at the site when the incident occurred, and ten have been rescued so far. Rescue operations are underway, involving teams from the NDRF, SDRF, and state police, with assistance from local residents.

The Gangotri and Yamunotri highways have been blocked due to continuous rainfall, further disrupting movement and pilgrimage routes.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the State Emergency Operations Centre in Dehradun to review the rescue and relief efforts. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rain in seven districts, including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar.

Pilgrims and tourists have been advised to stay updated on weather conditions and follow safety advisories issued by authorities.
