Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday virtually laid the foundation stone for 471 gram panchayat office buildings and disbursed the first instalment of Rs 40,000 each to 48,693 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana (AGY). The disbursement covered 28 districts, excluding Nuapada and Kalahandi due to the upcoming by-election in Nuapada. The initiative was described as a new chapter in rural development ahead of Diwali, aimed at promoting service-oriented governance in Odisha.
CM Majhi Focuses on Rural Development and Public Welfare
Speaking at the Lok Seva Bhawan, CM Majhi highlighted that the 471 new GP offices will act as “new temples” of service, providing convenience, dignity, and solutions under one roof. He emphasized that the government’s motto is to serve the people, not just govern them, ensuring that rural citizens benefit directly from government initiatives.
Antyodaya Gruha Yojana (AGY) First Instalment Benefits
Under AGY, Rs 194.77 crore was disbursed in the first instalment. Beneficiaries will receive Rs 65,000 in the second instalment and Rs 15,000 in the third, totalling Rs 1.20 lakh per person. CM Majhi urged beneficiaries to complete their houses on time, offering additional incentives of Rs 20,000 for completion within four months and Rs 10,000 for six months. This reflects the government’s commitment to providing dignified housing with basic amenities like toilets and piped water.
Strengthening Gram Panchayats as Service Centres
Majhi stressed that the new GP offices will be developed as one-stop service centres with separate rooms for officials to implement government schemes effectively. Each office is being constructed at a cost of Rs 35 lakh and aims to set new milestones in public service, rural development, and good governance across Odisha.
Integration of Government Schemes and Beneficiary Interaction
During the virtual programme, CM Majhi interacted with beneficiaries and sarpanches from various districts to review the implementation of government schemes. Panchayati Raj minister Rabi Narayan Naik and other ministers, MPs, and MLAs participated from their respective districts, further demonstrating the government’s hands-on approach to rural development.
