CM Mohan Majhi Apologises for Puri Stampede, Promises Action Over Security Lapses

Published on

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has issued a public apology to the devotees of Lord Jagannath following the tragic stampede in Puri, which claimed three lives near Saradhabali by the Gundicha Temple during the Rath Yatra festivities.

Speaking on Sunday, CM Majhi expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and said the incident was caused by serious security lapses, which he described as “inexcusable.”

“I, personally and on behalf of my government, apologise to all Jagannath devotees for this unfortunate incident,” said the Chief Minister.

The stampede occurred during heavy rush for darshan of Mahaprabhu Jagannath, when an overwhelming crowd gathered for early morning rituals. The Chief Minister confirmed that a high-level probe had been ordered and assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible.

“Security negligence is unacceptable. I have directed officials to carry out an immediate investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he added.

CM Majhi also prayed to Lord Jagannath for strength and comfort for the bereaved families. He affirmed that the state government would take corrective measures to avoid such incidents in the future during large-scale religious gatherings.
