Congress Slams PM Modi’s ‘Non-Visit’ to Manipur on September 13

Published on

NEW DELHI: The Congress party has sharply criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s likely visit to Manipur on September 13, describing it as a “non-visit” and an “insult” to the people of the state.

In a strong statement posted on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh called the proposed trip a “rushed visit” that underlines the Prime Minister’s “callousness and insensitivity” towards Manipur.

Ramesh alleged that the Prime Minister is scheduled to spend just about three hours in the state. “This is actually an insult to the people of Manipur who have waited for him for 29 long and agonising months,” he said.

Congress Calls PM Modi’s Manipur Visit an Insult

The Congress has argued that the Prime Minister’s short stop in Manipur cannot be termed a genuine visit. According to Ramesh, the people of the state have been suffering for more than two years, waiting for direct intervention and assurance from the central leadership.

He further added that the Prime Minister’s decision reflects “insensitivity and disregard” for the emotions and struggles of the citizens.

Why Congress Labels It a ‘Non-Visit’ to Manipur

The Congress said that PM Modi’s visit to Manipur should not be celebrated, as it fails to address the ground realities and long-standing grievances of the state’s residents.

“Spending barely three hours after nearly 29 months of silence shows no commitment to resolving the crisis,” Ramesh said in his statement.

Political Reactions to PM Modi’s Manipur Trip

The announcement of the possible visit has triggered heated political debate. While BJP leaders view it as an important outreach, the Congress insists it is merely symbolic.

Analysts believe that the visit comes amid rising political pressure on the government to address ongoing issues in Manipur and to counter criticism from the opposition.

The phrase “non-visit” coined by the Congress is now trending in political discussions, with the opposition uniting around the argument that PM Modi’s Manipur visit lacks substance.

Whether the trip will bring relief or remain symbolic remains to be seen, but the political storm it has already triggered suggests that Manipur will continue to be a focal point of national debate in the coming weeks.
