PM Modi to Visit Flood-Hit Gurdaspur on September 9 to Review Relief Operations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the flood-affected district of Gurdaspur in Punjab on September 9, as announced by the Punjab BJP on Sunday. During his visit, PM Modi will assess the ongoing rescue and relief operations and interact with families severely impacted by the floods.

Punjab BJP stated on X that, “Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji is coming to Gurdaspur, Punjab, on 9th September. He will personally meet flood-affected brothers-sisters and farmers, share their grief, and take every possible step to support the victims.”

The party further added that this visit reflects the commitment of the central government in standing firmly with the people of Punjab during this crisis.

Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jhakar highlighted that PM Modi is deeply concerned about the situation and is constantly monitoring developments. His visit is aimed at reviewing ground realities and ensuring maximum assistance reaches those in need.

PM Modi Gurdaspur Visit to Provide Full Support

Sunil Jhakar emphasized that the Prime Minister’s Gurdaspur visit shows his determination to provide relief and help rebuild the lives of those affected. He mentioned that Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had already toured Punjab on September 5 to evaluate the damage. Additionally, two central government teams have been tasked with preparing detailed reports on the devastation caused by the floods.

PM Modi Gurdaspur Visit Comes Amid Heavy Losses

According to official data, floods in Punjab have already claimed 46 lives as of Saturday. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that nearly 2,000 villages and more than four lakh people have been impacted by the disaster.

Relief Operations in Punjab Intensified

The state government, along with central agencies, has mobilized massive relief efforts. Currently, 24 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and two teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are active on the ground, supported by 144 boats and a state helicopter.

Cheema also informed that the Revenue Department has released ₹71 crore to strengthen ongoing rescue and relief measures in flood-affected regions.

Central Government Stands with Punjab

Reiterating the Centre’s commitment, Sunil Jhakar said that the Government of India is standing firmly with the people of Punjab. He assured that all necessary measures will be taken to support the victims and rebuild flood-affected areas.
