New Delhi: In a landmark move to empower youth and promote sports excellence, the Delhi government has announced a substantial increase in cash awards for medal winners at the Olympic and Paralympic Games under the newly launched Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the national capital on Sunday.

Revised Cash Awards for Medal Winners

As per the new scheme:

  • Gold medalists at the Olympics and Paralympics will now receive ₹7 crore, up from the current ₹3 crore.
  • Silver medalists will get ₹5 crore.
  • Bronze medalists will be awarded ₹3 crore.

In a major incentive, Olympic and Paralympic gold and silver medal winners will also be eligible for Grade A government jobs in Delhi.

For the Asian and Paralympic Games:

  • Gold medalists will receive ₹3 crore.
  • Silver medalists will get ₹2 crore.
  • Bronze medalists will be awarded ₹1 crore.

Digital Push in Schools: New Laptop Scheme for Students

Alongside this sporting initiative, the Cabinet has approved a new scheme to enhance digital education infrastructure in government schools.

Speaking at a press conference, Education Minister Ashish Sood announced the Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme, under which:

  • Fully equipped computer laboratories will be set up in government schools.
  • 1,200 high-performing Class 11 students will be given free laptops, based on their Class 10 board examination performance.

Minister Sood emphasized that these schemes reflect the government’s commitment to nurturing talent, bridging the digital divide, and creating opportunities for youth across fields—from sports to academics.

These initiatives are expected to not only boost morale among sportspersons and students, but also lay the foundation for a digitally empowered, achievement-oriented generation.
