Bengaluru: Ahead of the crucial Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru on Saturday, Congress MLA Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan strongly endorsed D K Shivakumar for the post of Karnataka Chief Minister.

Pathan expressed confidence that Shivakumar would be chosen as the next leader of the legislature party following the resignation of Siddaramaiah.

Karnataka CLP Meeting to Decide New Leader

Speaking to reporters, Pathan said the CLP meeting had been convened to formally elect the new legislature party leader.

According to him, senior leaders including Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar and Randeep Singh Surjewala, along with party MLAs, would participate in the meeting.

The development comes after Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot accepted Siddaramaiah’s resignation and dissolved the Council of Ministers with immediate effect.

The second-order effect of the leadership transition could influence cabinet formation, governance priorities and political equations within the ruling Congress ahead of future elections.

MLA Praises Shivakumar’s Contribution

Pathan highlighted Shivakumar’s four-decade-long association with the Congress and his contribution to strengthening the party in Karnataka.

He said Shivakumar had served the party consistently, won multiple elections and supported countless workers and citizens during his political career.

Expressing confidence in the outcome of the CLP meeting, Pathan stated that Shivakumar would “without a doubt” be chosen as the next Chief Minister.

High Command to Take Final Call Karnatak New CM

Meanwhile, Shivakumar maintained that decisions related to organisational appointments and nominations remain with the Congress high command.

Speaking to reporters earlier, he said matters concerning Rajya Sabha nominations and Legislative Council appointments would be decided by party leadership in New Delhi.

Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar recently met senior Congress leaders in the national capital to discuss political developments and the proposed cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka.

Political Focus on Bengaluru Meeting

The CLP meeting is being closely watched as it is expected to determine the future leadership of the Congress government in Karnataka.

With organisational discussions ongoing and leadership speculation intensifying, the outcome of the meeting could shape the state’s political landscape in the coming months.
