ED Raids Six Ranchi Locations in ₹800 Crore GST Scam Linked to Shell Companies

Published on

Ranchi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday intensified its probe into the ₹800 crore Goods and Services Tax (GST) scam by conducting fresh Ranchi GST scam raids at six different locations in the city. The action is part of a broader crackdown on a tax fraud network involving fake invoicing and shell companies.

The raids primarily targeted associates of Kolkata-based businessman Shiv Kumar Deora, believed to be the main mastermind behind the scam. Among the key premises searched was the residence-cum-office of businessman Krishna Thakkar on the fourth floor of Krishna Apartment, located in the busy P.P. Compound area.

Simultaneously, ED teams also carried out coordinated searches in Kolkata and Mumbai, based on intelligence and evidence collected during earlier stages of the investigation.

Ranchi GST Scam Raids Uncover Fake ITC Network and Shell Companies

According to sources, the Ranchi GST scam raids are linked to a larger network of shell companies that were allegedly used to generate fake invoices and illegally claim Input Tax Credit (ITC). The network enabled large-scale tax evasion by creating a paper trail of non-existent transactions, allowing beneficiaries to pocket crores in fraudulent credit.

So far, the ED has arrested several individuals, including:

  • Shiv Kumar Deora (Kolkata)
  • Vicky Bhalotia (Jugsalai, Jamshedpur)
  • Gyanchandra alias Bablu Jaiswal
  • Amit Gupta
  • Sumit Gupta

These individuals are believed to have operated fake firms with no genuine business activity, helping siphon off massive sums by exploiting loopholes in the GST framework.

The investigation remains active, and more arrests and asset seizures are expected as the ED continues to follow the money trail.
