New Delhi: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) recorded a net addition of 19.14 lakh members in April 2025, as per the payroll data released by the Labour Ministry on Sunday. This marks a 31.31% jump over March 2025 and a 1.17% increase over April 2024, showcasing a strong upward trend in formal employment.

Surge in New Subscribers and Youth Participation

In April alone, 8.49 lakh new subscribers were enrolled, reflecting a 12.49% increase over March. The net payroll addition for this age group was 7.58 lakh, up 13.60% from March 2025.

Rejoining Workforce Sees 15.77 Lakh Returning Members

A notable 15.77 lakh members who had previously exited rejoined EPFO in April, up 19.19% from the previous month. These individuals opted to transfer their EPFO accounts rather than withdraw funds, securing their long-term financial stability and social security.

Female Workforce Participation on the Rise

April also saw 2.45 lakh new female subscribers, a 17.63% rise over March. The net payroll addition for women stood at 3.95 lakh, recording an impressive 35.24% month-on-month growth. This highlights growing inclusivity and gender diversity in the formal workforce.

Maharashtra Leads State-Wise Payroll Additions

A state-wise analysis revealed that Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana each contributed over 5% to the total payroll growth. Maharashtra led the tally, accounting for 21.12% of net additions, while the top five states/UTs made up 60.10% of total net payroll additions in April.
