EPFO Officer in Berhampur Caught Red-Handed Accepting ₹10,000 Bribe by CBI

Published on

Bhubaneswar: In a major action against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an officer from the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) Regional Office, Berhampur for allegedly accepting a ₹10,000 bribe.

The officer was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from a company representative in Berhampur’s Lanjipalli area, according to official sources.

Bribe Taken for Issuing Digital Signatures

Sources revealed that the officer had demanded the bribe in exchange for facilitating the issuance of digital signatures, an essential step in processing company-related documentation under EPFO regulations.

The complainant approached the CBI, following which a trap was set.

Sting Operation at Hotel Leads to On-the-Spot Arrest

The EPFO officer had reportedly invited the representative to a hotel in Berhampur, under the pretext of completing formalities. However, during the transaction, CBI officials acted immediately, arresting the officer as soon as he received the bribe.

The entire operation was executed following a formal complaint, and the bribe amount was recovered during the raid.

Officer Being Interrogated at Secret Location

The accused EPFO official has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated at an undisclosed location.

Further investigation is underway to determine if other officials were involved in similar corrupt practices.
