EPFO Registers Record Net Payroll Addition of 21.89 Lakh Members in June 2025

Published on

The Union Labour Ministry announced on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) that the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) recorded a net member addition of 21.89 lakh in June 2025. This marks the highest growth since the payroll data tracking system was introduced in April 2018. Compared to May 2025, the net payroll addition rose by 9.14%, while on a year-on-year basis with June 2024, the growth stood at 13.46%.

Net payroll addition reflects the total number of subscribers included in the scheme, comprising both new members and those rejoining.

Surge in New EPFO Subscribers

EPFO registered around 10.62 lakh new members in June 2025, reflecting a 12.68% increase compared to May 2025 and a 3.61% rise over June 2024. According to the government, the surge can be linked to expanding job opportunities, improved awareness of employee benefits, and successful outreach initiatives undertaken by the EPFO.

EPFO Payroll Data Highlights Youth Dominance

The Ministry highlighted that subscribers between the ages of 18 and 25 were the largest contributors to new enrollments. In June 2025, EPFO added 6.39 lakh members in this age bracket, representing 60.22% of the total new subscribers. Compared to May 2025, this segment saw a 14.08% growth.

For the same age group, the overall net addition for June stood at approximately 9.72 lakh. Meanwhile, 16.93 lakh individuals who had previously exited rejoined the scheme during the month, reflecting a 5.09% rise from May and a 19.65% increase compared to June 2024.

Women Subscribers Strengthen EPFO Net Payroll Growth

The data further showed that around 3.02 lakh women became new EPFO members in June 2025. The total net addition of female subscribers stood at 4.72 lakh. The Ministry described this as an encouraging sign of greater inclusivity and diversity in the workforce.

State-Wise Contribution to EPFO Payroll

Maharashtra led the country with 20.03% of the net payroll additions in June. Other major contributors included Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana, each accounting for more than 5% of the total additions.

Most of the new subscribers came from the services sector, including schools, universities, professional services, construction, engineering industries, trading companies, and financial firms, according to the official release.
