Gadkari Chairs Meeting on Nationwide Cashless Treatment Scheme for Road Accident Victims

Published on

The Government of India is gearing up to launch a nationwide scheme to provide cashless treatment to road accident victims, ensuring immediate medical care during the crucial golden hour without any financial burden on victims or their families.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari today chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the implementation of the scheme. During the meeting, Mr. Gadkari praised grassroots initiatives that have contributed to promoting road safety and emphasized the urgent need to curb the alarming rate of road accident fatalities in India.

The Minister highlighted that reducing road accidents is a top priority for the Union Government and called for better coordination among all stakeholders — including central and state agencies, hospitals, and law enforcement — to ensure the smooth and standardized rollout of the scheme across all states.

Mr. Gadkari also underlined that the success of this initiative is crucial to fulfilling India’s commitment to halving road accident deaths by 2030, as reaffirmed in the 2020 Stockholm Declaration.

The scheme, led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), aims to cover both public and private hospitals, allowing accident victims to receive cashless emergency treatment, with expenses being borne by the government. A centralized digital platform is being developed to manage and track claims effectively.
