Gaganyaan Test Flight to Begin in December: ISRO Chairman Confirms India’s Milestone Mission

ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan today announced that India’s maiden human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan, will take its first test flight in December this year. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Professor Narayanan confirmed that the mission is on track, with nearly 80 percent of its trials already completed. Out of a total of 10,000 required tests, around 7,700 have been successfully conducted, while the remaining 2,300 will be finished by March 2026.

Gaganyaan Test Flight: India’s Biggest Step in Human Spaceflight

Professor Narayanan emphasized that Gaganyaan test flight preparations are advancing smoothly, and India is closer than ever to sending astronauts into space. This mission, India’s first crewed spaceflight, is being viewed as a historic leap in the country’s space exploration journey.

ISRO Achievements Beyond Gaganyaan Test Flight

Highlighting ISRO’s other milestones, the Chairman revealed that 196 key accomplishments have been achieved in 2025 alone. These include the successful GLEX-2025 event and the development of a high-thrust electric propulsion system. In addition, ISRO is preparing to launch a 6,500 kg communication satellite of the United States from an Indian launchpad, marking another global collaboration milestone.

Aditya L1 Mission Data Shared With Scientists

The ISRO chief stated that over 13 terabits of scientific data from the Aditya L1 mission has been provided to researchers worldwide this year. This wealth of information will help in advancing solar studies and deep space research.

ISRO’s Role in Axiom-4 Mission

Speaking about international cooperation, Professor Narayanan noted ISRO’s critical contribution to the Axiom-4 Mission. He explained that Indian expertise resolved the LOX leakage issue in the first stage of the Falcon-9 rocket, preventing a possible catastrophic failure and ensuring the safe launch of the mission.
