- The BCCI has added the right-arm pacer to India’s squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand, making him available for all five matches.
- The fast bowler will miss the ODI series because of a hamstring injury and continues his recovery.
- Shubman Gill will lead India in the opening three ODIs, while Shreyas Iyer will captain the side in the final two matches.
Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has included fast bowler Auqib Nabi in India’s squad for the first three One Day Internationals against New Zealand.
The Men’s Selection Committee announced the decision on Saturday, confirming that Nabi will join the squad from the beginning of the five-match series.
The right-arm pacer had initially been selected for the fourth and fifth ODIs. His latest inclusion makes him available for the entire series, which begins on November 4 in Auckland.
The squad update comes after fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was ruled out of the ODI series while recovering from a hamstring injury.
Prasidh Krishna Injury Prompts Squad Change
Prasidh Krishna sustained a hamstring injury during India’s recent ODI series against the West Indies.
The fast bowler requires additional recovery time before returning to competitive cricket. He remains in contention for India’s upcoming Test series against New Zealand, subject to his fitness.
Krishna could also feature in India A’s third four-day match against New Zealand A if he receives the necessary medical clearance.
Nabi’s inclusion provides India with another pace-bowling option for the opening three ODIs.
Auqib Nabi Gets Opportunity in New Zealand Series
The Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler made his ODI debut against the West Indies in September 2026.
Although his international career is still in its early stages, Nabi has gained experience through domestic cricket and India A assignments.
He recently featured in India A’s first unofficial Test against New Zealand A, taking six wickets across the match. His availability for the entire ODI series gives the team management additional flexibility in selecting its pace attack.
However, his inclusion in the squad does not guarantee a place in the playing eleven.

Shreyas Iyer will take over the captaincy for the fourth and fifth matches, with Ishan Kishan serving as vice-captain. The series is scheduled to conclude on November 15, followed by a two-match Test series beginning November 19.
