GT vs CSK IPL 2023 Highlights: Gujarat start title defence with a win, beat Chennai by 5 wickets

Published on

Ahmedabad: GT vs CSK IPL 2023 : Shubman Gill of the Gujarat Titans overshadowed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s impressive effort with a brilliant half-century as Gujarat Titans opened their title defence with a decisive five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings on Friday.

When Titans brought things back in the middle overs to limit Chennai Super Kings to 178 for seven after choosing to bowl first in front of a nearly full house at the largest cricket stadium in the globe, Gaikwad was all class in his 92 off 50 balls. Gill, who has been in the best shape of his life over the past three months, played some incredible shots in his 63 off 36 balls to help the home team secure a victory.

Wriddhiman Saha, Gill’s opening partner, proved that he still has it by smashing a few sixes and just as many fours in his 16-ball 25, which sparked the Gujarat Titans’ run chase. The back foot punch off CSK’s key player Tushar Deshpande was Gill’s greatest shot of the innings, and he backed it up with a pick up shot over midwicket. Sai Sudharsan of the Titans, who replaced an injured Kane Williamson, made a significant contribution with 22 off 17 balls.

GT vs CSK IPL 2023 Rashid Khan Player of the Match

Rashid Khan bowled 2/26 and scored 10 runs in three balls to help GT cross the finish line. In the post match interview Rashid Khan says that “So happy to get the Player of the Match. Gives me so much of energy for the rest of the competition. Bowling to the leftie was hard but the more I keep it tight, it is better. I had it in my mind to keep it simple. Just bowl the right areas consistently. Batting is all about time spent in the nets. The kind of opportunity and confidence in me by the coaching staff and the captain does give me a lot of batting time in the nets. It helps me in the middle.”
