Link Aadhaar Card with PAN Card till June 30, PAN-Aadhaar Linking Date extended

Link Aadhaar Card with PAN Card: The Income Tax Department recently suggested people to link their PAN with Aadhaar before June 30 in a tweet. It also mentions that while linking PAN to Aadhaar, a demographic mismatch may emerge, thus users need update their ID cards to complete the procedure.

Now government provide some more time to the taxpayers, the date for linking PAN and Aadhaar has been extended to 30th June, 2023. whereby persons can intimate their Aadhaar to the prescribed authority for Aadhaar-PAN linking without facing repercussions.

Notably, According to the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961(the ‘Act’) every person who has been allotted a PAN as on 1st July, 2017 and is eligible to obtain Aadhaar Number, is required to intimate his Aadhaar to the prescribed authority on or before 31st March, 2023, on payment of a prescribed fee.

Failure to do so shall attract certain repercussions under the Act w.e.f. 1st April, 2023. The date for intimating Aadhaar to the prescribed authority for the purpose of linking PAN and Aadhaar has now been extended to 30th June, 2023.

The PAN of taxpayers who have failed to intimate their Aadhaar from 1st July, 2023, as required, shall become inoperative and the consequences during the period that PAN remains inoperative will be as no refund shall be made against such PANs; interest shall not be payable on such refund for the period during which PAN remains inoperative; and TDS and TCS shall be deducted /collected at higher rate, as provided in the Act.

The PAN can be made operative again in 30 days, upon intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of fee of Rs.1,000.

Those persons who have been exempted from PAN-Aadhaar linking will not be liable to the consequences mentioned above. This category includes those residing in specified States, a non-resident as per the Act, an individual who is not a citizen of India or individuals of the age of eighty years or more at any time during the previous year.

Here are the steps to link your PAN card with your Aadhaar number:

Online Method: Link Aadhaar Card with PAN Card

  • Visit the Income Tax e-Filing website or click on the direct link https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/
  • Click on the “Link Aadhaar” option under the “Quick Links” tab on the left-hand side of the page.
  • Enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and name as per Aadhaar in the given fields.
  • Enter the captcha code displayed on the screen.
  • Click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.
  • A pop-up message will appear confirming the linking of Aadhaar with PAN. Verify the details and click on the “Ok” button.

Offline Method: Link Aadhaar Card with PAN Card

  • Visit the nearest PAN service center or Aadhaar enrollment center.
    • Fill the form for linking PAN with Aadhaar.
    • Submit the form along with self-attested copies of your PAN and Aadhaar cards.
    • The officer at the center will verify the details and return the original documents.

Once verified, the linking will be completed, and a confirmation message will be sent to your registered mobile number and email ID.
It is essential to link your PAN card with Aadhaar number as it has been made mandatory by the government. Failing to link the two documents can lead to severe consequences such as invalidation of PAN card and penalty. So, follow the above steps and complete the linking process at the earliest.
