Ahmedabad: The herSTART programme Gujarat entered its fifth edition as Bhupendra Patel launched the initiative aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a newly built research park at Gujarat University during the event in Ahmedabad.

The programme is designed to strengthen the startup ecosystem for women by providing incubation support, mentorship and access to markets.

herSTART Programme Gujarat Promotes Women-Led Development

Speaking at the launch event, Patel said Gujarat is working towards the vision of women led development championed by Narendra Modi.

The data suggests that women are increasingly becoming key participants in India’s expanding startup ecosystem. According to Patel, the number of startups in the country has surged from fewer than 500 a decade ago to nearly 2,00,000 today.

Women founders account for a growing share of this entrepreneurial momentum.

New Research Park and Tribute to Vidyagauri Nilkanth

Alongside the programme launch, the Chief Minister inaugurated a research park at Gujarat University to promote innovation and advanced research.

He also announced that the university’s convention centre would be named Vidyagauri Nilkanth Sabhapuram, honouring Vidyagauri Nilkanth.

The move highlights the state’s effort to recognise historic contributions of women in education while encouraging future generations of innovators.

Focus on Semiconductor and Deep-Tech Opportunities

Patel emphasised that technology should be viewed not only as a career but as a mission for national development.

He highlighted the growing semiconductor ecosystem in Gujarat, noting that a semiconductor plant has recently been inaugurated in Sanand. The regions of Sanand and Dholera are expected to emerge as semiconductor hubs.

What the market is missing is how women entrepreneurs could play a larger role in these emerging sectors, including chip design, fabrication management and semiconductor packaging.

Through initiatives like herSTART, the state aims to support women innovators entering deep technology fields.

During the event, the Chief Minister also released a coffee table book documenting the achievements of the fourth edition of the programme and felicitated women led startups associated with the initiative.
