New Delhi: In a landmark move to safeguard India’s ancient wisdom, a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed under the Gyan Bharatam Mission to protect and preserve the nation’s centuries-old manuscript heritage. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture, aims to conserve rare manuscripts and digitize traditional knowledge systems, bridging India’s ancient intellectual traditions with modern research and innovation.
Gyan Bharatam Mission Marks a New Era in Manuscript Preservation
Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat chaired the signing ceremony in New Delhi, calling the event a major milestone in India’s cultural preservation journey. The Ministry of Culture formalized partnerships with 17 prestigious academic and research institutions across the country, all committed to the common goal of safeguarding India’s manuscript legacy. Institutions such as the Asiatic Society, Kolkata, University of Kashmir, and the Government Oriental Manuscript Library, Chennai, were among the key signatories.
Seventeen Institutions Join Hands Under Gyan Bharatam Mission
With this MoU, 17 partner institutions have officially become part of the national manuscript preservation network. Minister Shekhawat emphasized that the Gyan Bharatam Mission is not just about archiving historical texts but about revitalizing India’s ancient knowledge systems for future generations. He added that the mission will create an integrated digital repository that allows scholars and citizens alike to access India’s intellectual heritage.
Government to Provide Financial and Technical Assistance
Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal announced that the government will provide both financial and technical support to ensure the smooth execution of the project. Each partner institution will receive resources to upgrade its archival infrastructure and train staff in advanced conservation and digitization methods. The mission seeks to blend traditional manuscript preservation with modern technological tools to ensure long-term sustainability.
