Akshay Kumar’s much-anticipated return to the comedy genre with Housefull 5 has started with a bang at the box office. According to early estimates from Sacnilk.com, the film has earned ₹23 crore (India net) on its opening day (Friday), surpassing the opening figures of the previous installment Housefull 4, which had collected ₹19.08 crore on Day 1 back in 2019.
What sets Housefull 5 apart is its unique concept — the movie was released in two versions simultaneously: Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B, each with a different ending, a rare cinematic experiment that seems to have piqued audience interest.
Occupancy and Comparison
On Friday, Housefull 5 recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 23.29%. It has already outperformed Akshay’s previous release Sky Force, which managed a Day 1 collection of ₹11.50 crore.
Plot Overview
Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced under Sajid Nadiadwala’s banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Housefull 5 is a comedic murder mystery set aboard a luxurious cruise ship. The plot kicks off when a billionaire (played by Ranjeet) announces his inheritance plans and is mysteriously murdered. The twist? There are three characters named Jolly — played by Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan — and all of them, along with their girlfriends, become prime suspects.
