Published on

National Award-winning filmmaker Nitin Neera Chandra’s Bhojpuri film Chhath has been officially selected for the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025. The film, deeply rooted in the spiritual and cultural traditions of Bihar, is a heartfelt cinematic tribute to one of India’s most sacred festivals — Chhath Puja.

Bhojpuri Film Chhath to Represent Bihar at IFFI 2025

The inclusion of Chhath in the prestigious Indian Panorama section marks a proud moment for Bhojpuri cinema. The film, directed by Nitin Neera Chandra and produced by Neetu Chandra, beautifully captures the devotion, discipline, and faith that define Chhath Puja. The movie premiered earlier this year in October on the Waves OTT platform, starring Deepak Singh in the lead role.

Nitin and Neetu Chandra Celebrate a Milestone for Bhojpuri Cinema

Expressing her joy, producer Neetu Chandra called the IFFI selection a “proud and emotional moment” for the entire team. She shared, “This is truly special, only the second or third time ever that a Bhojpuri film will be showcased at IFFI. Seeing our language, stories, and culture shine on such a grand stage is a huge leap for Bhojpuri cinema.” Director Nitin Neera Chandra added that the recognition was not just for the film but for the people of Bihar, celebrating their grace, resilience, and pride.

A Cinematic Tribute to Bihar’s Cultural Richness

Chhath stands out for its authentic portrayal of Bihar’s traditions and its deep emotional connection to the festival that unites millions in faith and gratitude. Nitin Chandra described the film as an attempt to reflect the spiritual depth of the state and the strength of its people. The realistic storytelling and cultural detailing make it a significant representation of regional Indian cinema at an international platform like IFFI.

The Chandra Siblings’ Mission to Redefine Bihar’s Image Through Cinema

The brother-sister duo, Nitin and Neetu Chandra, has consistently worked to elevate the image of Bihar in Indian cinema. Their focus on meaningful storytelling and regional authenticity has brought respect and attention to Bhojpuri films beyond stereotypes. With Chhath making it to IFFI 2025, their efforts continue to inspire a new generation of filmmakers from the region.
