IMD Issues Heavy Rain, Thunderstorm Alert for Odisha on July 27–28; Orange, Yellow Warnings in Place
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow weather warnings for several districts in Odisha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds on July 27 and 28.
Orange Alert for Sundargarh on July 27
The IMD has placed Sundargarh district under an orange warning for July 27, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds ranging between 30-40 kmph. Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid weather-related disruptions.
Yellow Warning for Multiple Districts
A yellow warning has been issued for several western and central Odisha districts for July 27, including:
- Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Sonepur – heavy rain and thunderstorms
- Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Boudh, Balangir – thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds
For July 28, the yellow warning extends to coastal and northern districts:
- Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj
Public Advisory
The IMD has advised residents in the affected areas to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid water-logged areas, and remain updated through official weather bulletins. Local administrations have been alerted to be prepared for potential flooding, disruption in road transport, and power supply issues due to strong winds and heavy rain.
