India and Vietnam have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the media and entertainment sector, marking a significant step in the growing bilateral relationship between the two countries. The development took place during a meeting in New Delhi between Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L Murugan and a high-level Vietnamese delegation.

During the discussions, both sides acknowledged the long-standing friendship and traditionally warm relations shared between India and Vietnam. They agreed to enhance cooperation through content exchange, capacity building, joint media productions, and cultural programming.

The meeting highlighted the importance of soft power and cultural diplomacy, with both nations expressing interest in showcasing each other’s cultural heritage through film, television, and digital media platforms.

Deep Historical and Strategic Ties

India and Vietnam celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2022, marking half a century of strong bilateral engagement. The relationship was further elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016, underscoring mutual interests in security, trade, and cultural exchange.

Both countries also reaffirmed their shared civilizational roots, especially their common Buddhist heritage, which continues to serve as a foundation for deeper cultural and spiritual connections.

Expanding Multi-Dimensional Cooperation

The two sides expressed commitment to further strengthening multi-dimensional cooperation, including in the areas of information dissemination, news broadcasting, and people-to-people ties. The partnership in media and entertainment is expected to not only enhance mutual understanding but also support broader strategic objectives.
