India Covid-19: Corona cases surge across country; States asked to be cautious

COVID-19 infections are once again on the rise in India, with the emergence of a new variant, JN.1, causing growing concern. The virus, which caused widespread disruption from 2020 to 2022, is seeing a resurgence with increasing cases, particularly in Delhi, Kerala, and Karnataka, according to a Dynamite News report.

Delhi Reports 23 Cases

Delhi has seen a sudden uptick in COVID-19 cases, with 23 active cases confirmed by private labs. While all patients are currently stable, Health Minister Pankaj Singh has directed hospitals to remain alert and issued an advisory urging caution.

Rising Infections in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad has reported four cases so far. One is an 18-year-old girl from Brijvihar, who tested positive after showing symptoms of cough, cold, and fever. She is currently hospitalized. An elderly couple from Vasundhara also tested positive after returning from Bengaluru and are now isolating at home. Another case involves a 37-year-old woman from Vaishali, who is also in home isolation with mild symptoms.

Karnataka Confirms 35 Cases

Karnataka has reported 35 active COVID-19 cases, with 32 in Bengaluru. A 9-month-old girl from Hoskote tested positive and has been admitted to Vani Vilas Hospital, where her condition remains stable. Health officials have noted a slow but consistent rise in cases over the past 20 days.

Kerala Records 273 Cases in May

Kerala has reported the highest number of new cases, with 273 recorded this month. Health Minister Veena George has urged all districts to remain vigilant and boost surveillance efforts. The majority of cases are from Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, and Thrissur. She emphasized the need for quick response if infection levels rise in any district.

Odisha Cases

A COVID case was also reported in Odisha after more than two years, with the patient in stable condition, officials confirmed on May 22, 2025.

Public Advisory Issued

Amid rising infections and the spread of the JN.1 variant, the Health Department has appealed to the public to stay cautious. People are advised to avoid crowded places, wear masks, maintain hand hygiene, and seek medical advice if symptoms appear.
