New Delhi: In a major diplomatic development, India and the Philippines signed nine Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) today in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Philippines President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. The agreements mark a new milestone in bilateral relations and include key areas such as a Strategic Partnership, Defence Cooperation, Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, and Science & Technology Collaboration, among others.

Addressing the media after the exchange of MoUs, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the historical and civilizational ties between the two nations and called the visit of President Marcos Jr. especially meaningful as the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Modi also thanked the Philippines Government for strongly condemning the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, reaffirming both nations’ shared commitment to fighting terrorism.

India-Philippines Defence Partnership Grows Amid MoU Exchange

Focusing on enhanced cooperation, PM Modi announced that under India’s Development Partnership, the number of Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in the Philippines will be increased. He further added that India will support the development of a sovereign data cloud infrastructure in the Philippines, helping strengthen digital capabilities.

Highlighting economic progress, PM Modi revealed that bilateral trade between India and the Philippines has surpassed $3 billion, with the goal to accelerate talks on the India-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement review.

In response, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed gratitude to the Indian Government for its hospitality and emphasized the deepening defence and security ties. He appreciated India’s support in modernizing the Philippines’ defence sector, in collaboration with India’s indigenous defence industry.
