New Delhi: The External Affairs Ministry said that India has its long standing national position on any issues related to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, adding that these issues will have to be addressed by India and Pakistan bilaterally. Replying to a question during Media briefing in New Delhi, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India’s policy over this matter has not changed and any outstanding matter is the vacation of illegally occupied Indian territory by Pakistan.
In reply to a question on Indus Water Treaty, MEA Spokesperson said this treaty was concluded in the spirit of goodwill and friendship as specified in the preamble of the treaty but Pakistan has held these principles in abeyance by its promotion of cross-border terrorism for several decades now. He said that now as per the decision of Cabinet Committee on Security after Pahalgam terror attack, New Delhi will keep the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.
Responding to a a question on ceasefire between India and Pakistan, MEA Spokesperson said that the understanding on ceasefire between Director Generals of Military Operations of the two countries was worked on 10th of May after a request was received by MEA from Pakistani High Commission. He informed that after initial difficulties due to technical reasons, the timing was then decided on 15:35 hrs. Mr Jaiswal said that this came after the extremely effective attack on Pakistani Air Force bases on early morning on 10th of May 10th which compelled Pakistan to stop firing.
In reply to another question, Mr Jaiswal said that no discussion on the issue was held between Indian and US leaders on the evolving military situation. He said, since the commencement of the Operation Sindoor on 7th May till the understanding on cessation of firing and military action on 10th May, there were conversations between Indian and US leaders but the issue of trade did not come up in any of these discussions.
On the speculation by US President Donald Trump on nuclear war, MEA spokesperson Jaiswal said that the military action from Indian side was entirely in the conventional domain and Pakistani Foreign Minister has himself denied the nuclear angle on record. Mr Jaiswal added that India has a firm stance that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail or allow cross-border terrorism to be conducted invoking it.
MEA Spokesperosn also said that over the last two years, India has been sharing information with the United Nations Security Council and the monitoring team of the Sanctions Committee as to why the terrorist- the Resistance Front (TRF), which is the front for Lashkar-e-Taiba, should should be listed as a terrorist entity. He said, India will also be also in few days time sharing more details in this regard.
